There is a consensus around the projections of battery production needs by 2030, which should be around 4.7TWh (= 4700 GWh), or more than 7 times the installed global capacity of 2022 (source McKinsey – Battery 2030: Resilient, sustainable, and circular).
At this time, there is also a consensus that although the materials constituting Lithium-ion batteries are sufficiently present on earth, their extraction and refining capacities will be below the necessary volumes, particularly for Lithium, and to a lesser extent for Nickel.
Tiamat addresses all these issues with its Sodium-ion battery cell technology, the synthesis of which of the constituent positive active materials does not depend on the above-mentioned materials, and can be carried out in a sovereign manner, independent of geostrategic powers.
Tiamat is based on nearly 10 years of academic research conducted by certain CNRS and University research units working together within the RS2E.
The project consists of the construction of a gigafactory for the manufacture of sodium-ion batteries. The gigafactory will be equipped with the manufacturing means to produce 5GWh of first-generation sodium-ion battery cells designed by Tiamat. It will be located on the outskirts of Amiens in the Commune of Boves, 10 km south-east of Amiens. It will be located at the level of the ZAC Jules Verne 2.
From CNRS research, Tiamat’s Sodium-ion technology is lithium, cobalt and nickel free, eliminating the issues of limited resources
Tiamat proposes an excellent power battery for hybridization ICE or fuel cell. The high power performances and the high safety of the Tiamat battery position the Tiamat product as a good solution for the mobility hybridization market.
For storage applications, Tiamat proposes a solution of Uninterruptible Power Supply and Static Transfer Switch for smart grid, data center and fast charger system.
